When we think of impactful donations, a computer might not be the first thing that comes to mind. Yet for programs working on the front lines of saving lives, technology can make all the difference.

Recently, the Round Rock Sunrise Rotary Club donated a much-needed computer to African Mothers Health Initiative (AMHI). Joanne Chiwaula, who helps lead this vital work, shared her gratitude:

“Please extend our deep gratitude to the Round Rock Sunrise Rotary Club. We received the computer and our secretary is thrilled to have a new computer that works well. Computers are not always the most exciting donation to make, but they are integral to our program implementation.”

Behind every spreadsheet, report, and email sent from that new computer is a story of impact—a story like this one:

A baby girl lost her mother only weeks after being born. Her father continued caring for her siblings while the infant’s maternal grandmother and uncles stepped forward to raise her. Though her uncles worked as day laborers and could barely provide for their own families, they sacrificed what little they had to purchase infant formula. Their generosity came at great cost—their own families ate less so the baby could survive.

This family’s love and unity were remarkable, but the financial burden was impossible to sustain. That’s when they connected with AMHI. With timely intervention, this vulnerable infant received the support she needed to survive—not as treatment for malnutrition, but to prevent it entirely and to prevent another tragic loss.

Stories like this highlight why technology is so critical. The donated computer helps AMHI staff stay organized, track cases, and coordinate resources more effectively—ensuring that high-risk infants like this little girl receive lifesaving support.

Though infants who depend on breastmilk substitutes make up a small percentage of the population, they face disproportionately high risks of malnutrition and death. Each life saved is a testament to the collective compassion, commitment, and resources of partners like Rotary.

The Round Rock Sunrise Rotary Club’s donation reminds us that even a single computer can play a role in saving lives. It’s more than equipment—it’s a tool of hope, connection, and impact.
