This past Sunday, we had the privilege of joining the Round Rock Police Department for Step N2 Success, their annual event providing free shoes to eligible school children ahead of the new year.

It is easy to underestimate a pair of shoes. But for a child heading into a classroom, the right pair does more than protect their feet. It means running at recess without holding back. It means walking through the door on the first day without wondering whether anyone will notice. For families stretching a budget across supplies, clothes, and everything else a school year asks for, shoes are often the item that waits. Step N2 Success exists so that it doesn't have to.

Our volunteers spent the morning helping families find the right fit, working alongside officers from the RRPD and other community partners. Kids were measured, shown their options, and given the chance to pick a pair for themselves — a small thing, but one that mattered to them.

Our thanks go to the RRPD for organizing an event that has become a real fixture of the back-to-school season here, and for welcoming us into it. Thank you as well to every volunteer who gave up a Sunday morning to be part of it, and to everyone whose support made our participation possible.

Events like this one are exactly why we do what we do, and we're already looking forward to next year.

Coming up next: our Box Wars event. We had the chance to talk with a lot of families about it on Sunday, and we'd love to see you there — details coming soon.
